Resource Guide

The following guide is intended for musicians and parents whose children play stringed instruments. It is a brief list of the local (Philadelphia area) places where you can find instruments, repairs, bows, rehairing, and supplies, as well as some mail order suppliers, some with web sites.

I make no claims that this list is comprehensive and I don't guarantee that you will love every supplier on it. I have dealt with many of these people personally over the years and have found them reliable. The ones I haven't dealt with have been recommended by players whose judgement I trust.

I have also included the mail order suppliers I use on a regular basis. Most of them can deliver strings, cases, and supplies within a week.

The music schools listed range from comprehensive institutions which offers all instruments, voice, theory, and dance, to schools specializing in string instruments. Most of them offer coached chamber music ensembles as well. If you're interested in lessons, call and ask whether they offer what you want.
